Canyon of Chelly is a protected natural area of the United States located in northeastern Arizona, in Apache County. The area, which has an area of 339.3 km 2, and is a national monument of the United States since 1931. The area is entirely within the Navaja Indian Reserve.
In this place stands out the Spider Rock, this incredible red sandstone monolith is located in the Arizona Canyon within the Chelly National Park. Its height reaches 244 meters, formed about 230 million years ago with the foundation of layers of sand deposited by the wind. Its name derives from the legend of the Navajo Indians "La Abuela Araña" who made it their home. They grant her the status of "Savior" and worship her as a deity.
